When you have become expert in these 28 lessons you will be able to make any hat you desire and qualified to fill a position in a Millinery Salon.

Lesson No. 1

Equipment Required—For professional results right equipment is necessary.
Materials used

Lesson No. 2

Stitches used—Practice these different stitches until perfection is attained.

Lesson No. 3

Steaming & Pressing
How to take head measurements—An essential lesson. One of the first things to learn is how to take head measurements.

Lesson No. 4

Cutting and joining a bias—Very important lesson.
Gluing materials—Takes practice.

Lesson No. 5

Cutting a sailor pattern—The Basic Hat. Almost all hats are variations of the sailor. Teaches you to sew wire. Valuable when altering a hat.
Making buckram sailor frame

Lesson No. 6

MATERIALS: Straw cloth or deep pile fabric. Trim with flowers, wings or bows.
Covering sailor frame—When you learn to make a cover a sailor you can cover any hat frame.

Lesson No. 7

MATERIALS: Velvet or satin, deep pile fabrics. Trim with braid, tassels, fruit or wings.
Make pill box frame
Cover pill box frame—Pill box is really a sailor crown.

Lesson No. 8

MATERIALS: Kitten's ear, duvetyne or straw cloth. Trimming depends upon type of hat and occasion it is to be used for.
Blocking material for covering frame
Covering frame with blocked material—A speedy method. After material is blocked your hat is practically finished.

Lesson No. 9

Hat anchorages—Used extensively now.
Linings—Make your own linings for economy.
Headbands—Very important.

Lesson No. 10

MATERIALS: Grosgrain ribbon.
Ribbon cocarde
Ribbon ornaments and bands—Used in every season. Very decorative.

Lesson No. 11

MATERIALS: Satin, taffeta or velvet ribbon. Used on all types of hats.
Ribbon bows—Beautiful bows are an art and adds much to the beauty of a hat.

Lesson No. 12

How to apply trimmings—This requires practice to make a professional looking hat.

Lesson No. 13

MATERIALS: Sheer veiling. This type veil used on dressy hats.
Bird cage veil—This flattering veil may be made either full length or short.

Lesson No. 14

MATERIALS: Straw cloth, velvet, deep pile fabric. Trim with ribbon headband and heavy veil.
Making paper pattern for a rolled brim
Covering a breton sailor—Use this lesson for covering any frame that has a curved brim. Use the lesson on gluing here.

Lesson No. 15 & 16

MATERIALS: 1" straw braid. Trim with flowers or beads and veiling, depending on type frame.
Making a 1" straw braid hat using a buckram frame for a block—1" straw braid. Trim with perky rose or quill and veil.
Making a 1" straw braid pill box—When you learn this method you can make any kind of a straw braid hat.

Lesson No. 17

MATERIALS: Rough straw body. Trim with soft satin ribbon folded around crown and a soft loop bow.
Blocking a rough straw body—This is one of the simplest straw hats to make and is very flattering.

Lesson No. 18

MATERIALS: 5" straw banding. Trim with tailored bow and veil.
Making hat of 5" straw banding—This hat requires skill and offers unlimited possibilities for expressing designing ability.

Lesson No. 19

MATERIALS: Velvet, satin or felt. Finish edge with pearls.
Making scalloped calot—An easy to make, youthful hat.

Lesson No. 20

MATERIALS:Wool felt. Self trimmed.
Making wool felt hat and bag—Any teen-ager can make this outfit at a reasonable cost.

Lesson No. 21

MATERIALS: 8 bunches of small flowers.
Flowered hat—Very easy to make.

Lesson No. 22

MATERIALS: Wool fabric. Trim with grosgrain ribbon around crown and finish with small tailored bow.
Stitched casual hat—Fine hat for casual wear.

Lesson No. 23

MATERIALS: Fur felt body. Trim with soft chiffon drape around brim.
Blocking felt crown and brim on separate blocks—An advanced but very valuable lesson. Take time in making this hat and you will be rewarded.

Self trimmings—Trimmings are important and less expensive if you make your own.

Lesson No. 25

MATERIALS: Velvet. Trim with bugle beads.
Beaded velvet beret—Berets are always used. This is a very elaborate outfit.

Lesson No. 26

MATERIALS: Silk jersey, soft velvet or chiffon. Trim with a large flower or pin in front.
Draped Turban—This is an advanced lesson. The draped turban requires real skill, but is always in style.

Lesson No. 27

MATERIALS: Fur felt hood. Bead entire front with souffles
Felt pattern hat—An easy to make hat. One of the latest hats this season. May be worn for all occasions.

Lesson No. 28

MATERIALS: Two fur felt hoods. Trim with large brilliant pin.
Felt hat with 3-piece crown—This hat is a real test of your skill. If this hat is perfect in every detail when finished you can make any hat.
